The first system worldwide to provide digital audio broadcasting in the form of cloud-supported services, which are inexpensive, complete, future-proof and easy-to-use! The first ever Radio as a Service (RaaS), that we accepted as our motto. RaaS means that we offer the broadcasters a complete digital transmission solution with all the technical details ‘hidden’ in our cloud, promising to deliver the content they provide (voice, music, pictures, advertisements and all DAB+ services) to the air.
DABCAST greatly reduces complexity of digital transmission, supporting full path from audition studio down to air transmission and providing easy-to-use web-based management GUIs. By reducing cost and complexity, DABCAST solution finally opens the digital radio broadcasting market for SMBs.
The main element of any digital radio system is multiplexer (MUX) responsible for multiplexing (joining) multiple data streams, forming and forwarding them to transmission part through cloud or dedicated transmission lines. In DABCAST, multiplexers are hosted on the cloud servers (IBM or Microsoft) with Linux operating system – providing great reliability and scalability. The multiplexation function is handled in software, being easy to extend or reconfigure, even remotely
In order to be complete, our system includes audition line-up preparation software (we call it the Virtual Studio), that will provide simple means to configure and prepare the content (speech, advertisements, music, slides, information, etc.) to be broadcast.
Transmitter (TX) is responsible for digital signal processing, modulation, A/D conversion, D/A conversion and signal air transmission. In traditional architecture, this part is the most expensive, based on dedicated hardware circuits.
DABCAST meanwhile is a realization of Software Defined Radio (SDR) concept (main functions are implemented in software, substantially reducing costs) integrated with Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware units.
Due to this, the platform remains cheap, offering in the same time enterprise-grade performance, stability, scalability and extensibility/flexibility (other technologies radio and TV like DVB-T/T2, DRM, etc).
DABCAST transmission system will be complemented by enterprise-grade operations and management system (OAM), allowing various actors (cloud administrators, station owners, transmitter owners – operators) to perform management actions: configuration, security, software and hardware administration, performance and fault management
DABCAST’s unique feature is also possibility to monitor the signal being transmitted into air and compare it automatically with what was sent from multiplexers. It can be done in real time with additional monitoring unit (MON), adding quality assurance (QA) to our services. It can be used not only for detecting network problems, but also e.g. provide information for monitoring organizations and regulatory bodies.
